Answers
Do I have to move to another city/province to receive a job at oil industry?
No, positions are fly-in unless you are already located in Alberta.
Who will pay for my travel expenses?
Some companies pay in full travel expenses; some pay half, some none. It all depends on your position and employer.
Who will pay for my living expenses, while I'm on a job site away from home?
Your employer will pay for your room and board while you will be onsite.
Why should I register in SOES online database?
Hiring managers at oil companies search through online database to find the right candidate for the open position. Each person after registration online receives his/her unique number, which our agency then uses to suggest to the hiring managers the candidate that will best suite the company's needs and position. The online database simplifies and speeds up the hiring process.
What are H2S and WHMIS certificates?
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a highly toxic and flammable gas. H2S training is required in many industries including petroleum industry, pulp and paper, waste water treatment, seismic industry. During the completion of the certificate, people are provided with training which increases awareness and safety for everybody on the job site.
The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS, known as SIMDUT, Systeme d'information sur les matieres dangereuses utilisees au travail in French) came into effect on October 18, 1988. The key elements of the system are cautionary labeling of containers of WHMIS controlled products, the provision of material safety data sheets (MSDSs) and worker education and site-specific training programs.
I registered with your agency, what kind of chance do I have to receive the desired position?
The better you display yourself in your profile the better your chances in being selected by a hiring company. Our agency profits only when we provide workers to companies. We'll do our best to provide you with the desired position once selected, or any other available position. We are as serious and interested to employ you as you are in getting a job.
Why do I need H2S and WHMIS certificates in order to sign up for your database?
These two certificates are the minimum requirements (aside from the basic qualifications listed) one must have in order to work in the Canadian oil industry. Depending on the position other certificates might be required, but these two are the minimum basic requirements everybody must have. They ensure all workers have the minimum safety qualifications, training and are ready to work in the oil industry.
Are there any fees for applying to your database? Any hidden costs?
No. Our company sets up everyone's portfolios free of charge and includes you in our database. Our company's income is based solely on providing you with a job. You are not working, we don't get paid.
When will I get a job? How does the hiring process work?
The hiring process is based on qualifications and first come first serve basis.
For example, two individuals sign up for our database two weeks apart for the exact same positions.
The one that signed up first - A, the one that signed up second (two weeks later) - B. B got a job before A,
even though A signed up first. Why? Because B had more qualifications (experience, licenses, certificates, etc.) and or displayed their qualities better.
The opportunities advertised by this agency seem almost too good to be true. They show much higher wages then anywhere in Canada. Are these numbers the actual wages people get in Alberta for general labor positions ie. $24/hour in cleaning or even kitchen staff?
All these wages are an estimate based on our research, but yes, even for the basic labor jobs in Alberta in most cases employees receive salaries as high as advertised like $24/hour plus bonuses for cleaning or kitchen staff.
